PROCEEDINGS 2009 PROMETEA CONFERENCE


This international conference was held on November 26th and 27th, Maison de l’UNESCO in Paris, France. In the wake of the 2007 International PROMETEA conference, the participants expressed the desire to reflect on the question ofthe scientific and technological careers of women and to pursue the dialogue between Human and Social Sciences on the one hand, and the preoccupations and reality of corporate life on the other hand.

Christine Waechter promotes PROMETEA over Atlantic

From February to April 2009, Christine Waechter (IFZ Graz and Klagenfurt University, Austria) is on a research leave as "Bank of Montreal Visiting Scholar in Women's Studies" at the Institute of Women's Studies, University of Ottawa. During this period she promotes the results and recommendations of our project Prometea, notably in the International Symposium organised by the Prof. Sue Rosser at Georgiatech Ivan Allen College last March 30th. She was a keynote speaker beside: Donna Ginther (University of Kansas), Ruby Heap (University of Ottawa)and Londa Schiebinger (Stanford University).

This international conference will be held on October 26th and 27th, in Paris, France. It is organized within the framework of the PROMETEA project, by the French members of the consortium: Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan (ENS Cachan), Institut National de Sciences Appliquées de Lyon (INSA Lyon), the Conference of the Heads of French Engineering Schools (CDEFI) and the association ECEPIE.

World Conference of Sociology in Durban, South Africa, 22 to 29 July 2006: PROMETEA researchers presenting

Anne-Sophie Genin, Liisa Husu, Felizitas Sagebiel and Minna Salminen-Karlsson will participate in the XVI International Sociological Association (ISA) World Conference of Sociology in Durban, South Africa, July 22 – 29, 2006 and give presentations linked to PROMETEA and WOMENG themes. Liisa Husu will be co-chairing a session on Feminist perspectives on the academy, which is part of the conference programme of the ISA Research Committee Women in Society. Anne-Sophie Genin and Felizitas Sagebiel will give a presentation reflecting on experiences in the multi-national and interdisciplinary WOMENG project on women’s careers in engineering, Felizitas Sagebiel together with Anina Mischau will give a presentation on women engineers making a career in academia in Germany, Minna Salminen-Karlsson on experiences of industrial graduate students in Sweden, and Liisa Husu on gate-keeping, gender and scientific excellence. Liisa Husu will also give a talk on sexism in academia in the University of Western Cape in Cape Town on August 1. More information on the ISA conference, you can read here

students

A workshop "Recruitment and retention of female engineering students" facilitated by Anne-Sophie Genin and Felizitas Sagebiel will be organizated the 29th June during the SEFI 34th Annual Conference "Engineering Education and Active Student" in Uppsala (Sweden). Presentation of project PROMETEA

The 31st May Jean Soubrier presented the project Prometea in the "Gender Issue Session" of the “2nd International Symposium on Nanostructured and Multifunctional Polymer-Based Materials and Nanocomposites” organised by the EU Network of Excellence “Nanofun Poly “. Workshop: Women engineers careers in industrial research

The coordination organises this event in Paris on Monday, May 22nd at the Ministry of Higher Education and Research in collaboration with other French partners of the project.
 
The workshop invites human resources directors from the industry to exchange their experiences about good practices for the promotion of women engineers in companies. Two sessions are planned:
 
- the first one is dedicated to “good practices in the recruitment process of women engineers”
 
- the second one deals with “good practices during the evolution of the career”
 
Some examples will be presented: Schlumberger Limited, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Gaz de France and European Space Agency.
 
A presentation of a “quality seal of approval” for companies established by the French ministry of employment, will close the day.


Presentation of Prometea to the WiST Business Group, in Paris the 27th February 2006

Yvonne Pourrat and Anne-Sophie Genin presented the project to the representatives of 23 companies members of the “Women in Science and Technology – the business perspective” group, in presence of Johanes Klumpers and Marina Marchetti from the European Commission.
